Toothache After a Crack? 5 Signs You May Need Root Canal Treatment

A cracked tooth doesn’t always cause immediate pain. However, if the damage extends to the inner pulp where the tooth’s nerves and blood vessels are located, treatment may be needed to save the tooth and prevent infection.

Here are five signs that a cracked tooth may require Root Canal Treatment:

  1. Persistent Toothache
Pain that lingers or worsens over time may indicate that the tooth’s nerve has been affected.
  2. Sensitivity That Doesn’t Go Away
Lingering sensitivity to hot or cold foods and drinks can be a sign of pulp damage.
  3. Pain When Chewing
Discomfort when biting down may suggest that the crack has extended deeper into the tooth.
  4. Swollen or Tender Gums
Swelling around the affected tooth may indicate infection and should be assessed promptly.
  5. Tooth Discolouration
A tooth that becomes darker following an injury or crack may be showing signs of nerve damage.

Root canal treatment removes infected or damaged pulp while preserving the remaining tooth structure. In many cases, a Dental Crown may be recommended afterwards to help strengthen and protect the treated tooth.
