Broken Teeth Treatment

Teeth that are decayed or cracked can be weak and prone to fracturing. The broken tooth can be very uncomfortable as it can be rough and irritates the tongue and cheeks resulting in ulcers. If a significant portion of the tooth is missing, the nerve can potentially be exposed resulting in excruciating pain and sensitivity.

Teeth can chip or fracture due to many reasons. The common ones include:

  • Decayed teeth
  • Cracked teeth
  • Trauma
  • Teeth grinding or clenching

The enamel surrounding the tooth is designed to protect the nerve. If the broken tooth is not managed and treated in a timely manner, this places the nerve in a vulnerable environment where significant pain and discomfort can arise. Issues may include:

  • Ulceration and irritation to the tongue, cheeks, lips
  • Sensitivity to cold and/or hot
  • Toothache
  • Abscess (infection)
  • Loss of tooth

Treatment of broken teeth can simply be a filling. However, for more severe and larger fractures where the integrity and strength of the tooth is compromised, an onlay, a One Visit Crown, or a Ceramic Crown may be required.
